“Hospitals Face Pressure to Avert Readmissions”

Nov 26, 2012, Pennington, NJ – With the recent implementation of finacial penalties against hospitals with high readmission rates, Medicare is seeking to eliminate what it considers “unnecessary care” and encourage hospitals to “pay attention to what happens to their patients after they walk out the door.”

In a recent New York Times article, Jordan Rau explains how the Medicare’s flexing its “financial muscle to discourage readmissions” has driven health providers towards a longer term view of patient care.
